Applicant must be a member of a federally recognized American Indian or Alaskan Native tribe, be a high school graduate or equivalent in good standing at current educational institution, have the capacity to complete a health professions course of study, and be accepted or enrolled in a health professions pre-graduate baccalaureate degree program.

Two of the letters must be from teachers who can also comment on the applicant's scholastic ability. Selection is based upon character, leadership abilities, and altruistic qualities.
