Applicant must be enrolled full time in an accredited engineering school and demonstrate interest in an engineering career in the vertical flight industry. Official transcript and academic endorsement from a professor are required to be submitted. Applications may be submitted in undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. categories in which the award may only be received once in each category by an individual.

Applicant must intend to enter into some field of science or engineering encompassed by the technical activities of AIAA. Applicant must possess a doctorate degree in history or in a closely related field, or be enrolled as a student (having completed all coursework) in a doctoral degree-granting program.The fellowship term is for a period of at least six months, but not more than nine months, and should commence no later than November 15. Recipient will be expected to devote the term entirely to the proposed research project.

Focus on one of the following disciplines is required: civil and materials, electrical and computer, computer science, or mechanical engineering. Applicant must show evidence of above average academic performance (minimum GPA 3.0/4.0). Women of color (African American, Latina, Native American) are encouraged to apply. Application coversheet, biographical statement, current resume or CV (list your education and employment history), UIC transcript, proof of financial aid eligibility, proof of U.S. citizenship (copy of birth certificate or passport), and two letters of recommendation (include at least one from a UIC instructor) required.

Applicant must plan to attend a Vermont institution of higher education full time for the following academic year and plan to pursue a professional career which has direct relevance to the U.S. aerospace industry and the goals of NASA. Three awards will be given to Burlington Technical College-Aviation Technology Program.
