Applicant must be an out-of-state United States resident who satisfies at least two of the following criteria: ranks at least in the top 10% of their high school class; is a member of the National Honor Society; or has a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better. Applicants should be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S., who is a full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a travel-and-tourism- or hospitality-related program of study at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. entering junior year or senior year at a four-year school in the fall of the calendar year of application, with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Applicants from a two-year school will have completed 30 credit hours by the end of this semester or term. Applicants from a four-year school entering junior or senior year will have completed a minimum of 60 or 90 credit hours respectively by the end of this semester or term. A graduate student may be entering any year of graduate study in the fall of the calendar year of application. For a complete application, applicant needs to submit a U.S. passport as proof of citizenship, or U.S. Alien Registration Card as proof of permanent residency, resume, official transcript, two evaluations and letters of recommendation (one academic and one professional), and an essay. Applicant must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program in an engineering, instrumentation, systems, electrical, mechanical, or automation discipline at an accredited United States educational institution for the upcoming academic year. At the time of application, applicant must have completed at least their sophomore year in a bachelor's degree program have a minimum 3.2 GPA, and be a United States citizen or legal United States resident. Selection will be based on applicant's potential for leadership and for making a significant contribution to the engineering, instrumentation, systems, electrical, mechanical, and automation professions, particularly as they relate to the application of fluid control and fluid power technology.

Applicant must be an undocumented Michigan resident, or the child of an undocumented resident who paid state taxes for the last two consecutive years. Selection is based upon work experience in a medically underserved area, amount of debt, professional goals within the next five to ten years, community service and membership organizations, and community background. Recipient commits to practice direct patient care for two-years in a medically underserved area (MUA) of California. Program looks to increase the number of vocational nurses practicing in medically underserved areas of California and assist licensed vocational nurses in repaying educational debt that was incurred as a result of pursuing a license in vocational nursing.
