Applicants must enter college the fall following their high school graduation, have at least a 2.0 GPA, be in need of financial aid ($55,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred) and be involved in extracurricular and community activities. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, residents of Michigan and high school seniors. They must be accepted at an ABET-accredited college or university in Michigan and must have plans to pursue a degree in engineering. Access to Better Learning and Education Grant Program

Applicants must be Florida residents for at least a year and first-time undergraduate students enrolled in degree programs (except theology or divinity degrees). Fund for American Studies Internships

There are programs in comparative political and economic systems, political journalism, business and government, philanthropy and international institutes. Each program includes classes, an internship and special events. Students live in on-campus housing at George Washington University or in furnished apartments in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Each student takes 3-9 credit hours in courses at George Mason University in addition to interning 30-35 hours per week. Summer and school-year programs are available.

This award is based on academic excellence, financial need, extracurricular activities, community service, involvement with American Saddlebred horses and personal references. An interview may be part of the selection process. Applicants should write an essay about school experiences, special interests, hobbies and American Saddlebred Horse Association activities. Appaloosa Youth Association Art Contest

Applicants age 18 and under should submit drawings, paintings and hand-built ceramics or sculptures with the Appaloosa theme. There are three age divisions: 10 and under and 11 to 13 and 14 to 18. Awards are based on originality, creativity and the theme.

NYS Regents Awards for Children of Deceased and Disabled Veterans

Award: $450, Deadline: June 30

Applicants must have a parent who served in the United States Armed Forces during Afghanistan, the Persian Gulf, Vietnam or Korean Conflicts, World War I or II or as a Merchant Seaman during World War II. The parent must be or have been a resident of New York State and have died or suffered a disability of 40 percent or more as a result of service, been classified as missing in action or been a prisoner of war. Students with a parent who has received the expeditionary medal for participation in operations in Lebanon, Grenada or Panama and students born with spina bifida whose parent is a Vietnam Veteran are also eligible.
