Verification of current enrollment and at least two letters of recommendation must be submitted with the application. Applicant must also submit an essay of at least 300 words explaining career objectives.

Awarded to individuals, under the age of 25, who are or have been diagnosed with cancer or a critical or life threatening disease in the past five years. Applicant must be pursuing an associate's degree as a bridge to a bachelor's degree or higher. Essay on how diagnosis has impacted their life and their future goals is required.. Copy of an acceptance letter from the college, university, or vocational-technical school applicant is planning to attend, written documentation from treating physician stating medical history, two letters of recommendation from non-related persons, official high school and/or current college transcript, and completed financial form to demonstrate financial need are required to be submitted.

Applicant must be an out gay man who is from the five county Philadelphia region (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties) or Camden County, or who is attending an accredited college, or graduate or professional school anywhere within the Philadelphia region. Purpose of award is to encourage gay men to obtain additional education, aspire to positions in which they contribute to society, be open about their sexual orientation, and act as role models for other gay men with similar potential.

Only one nominee (who is not a past recipient of the award) is allowed from each group; a statement, including data, which indicates the basis for the nomination, keeping the principle criterion of 'outstanding scientific contributions' in mind. They should illustrate the nominee's impact on respiratory care through the training of physicians and therapists, noting their accomplishments, and through publications and lectures; and a brief personal comment on their candidate's interests and activities outside of medicine (i.e. civic, family, hobby). Describe how public cardiopulmonary health and awareness have been influenced through the efforts of the nominee. Why is the nominee a role model for others in terms of public health? How has the nominee promoted the objectives relative to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Please include any supporting documentation and, in the case of an individual, a curriculum vitae, if available. Applicants may include individuals, groups, or organizations whose primary effort has promoted cardiopulmonary health and wellness. All papers published in the science journal RESPIRATORY CARE are judged automatically and the selection for awards is based upon the decision of the Editorial Board of the Journal. In general, proposals for either applied clinical research or basic research in respiratory care and cardiopulmonary medicine will be considered. This will include research studies in the theory and practice of respiratory care and respiratory care management and education. A respiratory care practitioner must be designated as principal investigator or co-principal investigator. Award amount depends on quality of proposals and discretion of ARCF Board of Trustees.

Applicants at institutions that do not offer tenure must demonstrate that their appointment is equivalent to that of a tenured Associate Professor. The proposed basic biology of aging research must be conducted at any type of not-for-profit setting in the United States.
