Astronaut Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: Open

Applicants must be sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate or graduate students in natural or applied science, engineering or mathematics at Brown University, Colorado School of Mines, Clemson University, Florida Institute of Technology, Georgia Institute of Technology, Harvey Mudd College, Johns Hopkins University, Louisiana State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Miami University, North Carolina State University, North Dakota State University, Ohio State, Pennsylvania State University, Purdue University, Syracuse University, Texas A&M University, Tufts University, University of Arizona, University of Central Florida, University of Chicago, University of Colorado, University of Kansas, University of Kentucky, University of Minnesota, University of Michigan, University of Oklahoma, University of Rochester, University of Southern California, University of Texas at Austin, University of Virginia, University of Washington, University of Wisconsin or Washington University and must be nominated by faculty or staff. Applicants may not directly apply for the scholarship. Students must have excellent grades and performed research or lab work in their field.

 

English Language Learner Educator Incentive Program

Award: $5,000, Deadline: October 15

Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students in their last two years of study who plan to become bilingual education teachers or teachers of English to non-native students in Connecticut public schools. Students must be enrolled full-time in participating undergraduate or graduate teacher preparation programs at the following universities: Central Connecticut State University, Fairfield University and Southern Connecticut State University. Applicants must start their teaching careers within 16 months of graduation.

 

Student Research Awards

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 15

Applicants must be undergraduate, graduate or medical students not yet engaged in thesis research. Students must attend an accredited North American school and conduct their research with a mentor. The planned research project must last at least 10 weeks and must be relevant to IBD.

 

Hansen Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February 28

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering or aeronautical engineering and must be involved in school and community activities as well as aviation. Applicants must be in good academic standing. Financial need will be considered. Applicants must also be EAA members or be recommended by an EAA member.

 

Payzer Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 28

Applicants must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited college or university with an emphasis on technical information and must intend to pursue a career in engineering, mathematics or the physical or biological sciences. Applicants must also be involved in school and community activities as well as aviation and be members of EAA.

 

John Henry Comstock Graduate Student Awards

Applicants must be graduate students and members of the ESA. Each ESA branch has its own eligibility requirements, so an interested student must contact their Branch Secretary-Treasurer for more information.

 

Brenda Renee Horn Memorial Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: December 31

Applicants must be enrolled or plan to be enrolled in an accredited mortuary science program at the time of the scholarship deadline. Students must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

 

Memorial Classic Golf Tournament Scholarship

Applicants must be enrolled full- or part-time in an American Board of Funeral Service Education accredited program. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

 

Dennis Schoepp Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must be a student of funeral service from Montana and be enrolled full- or part-time in an American Board of Funeral Service Education accredited program. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

 

Shipley Rose Buckner Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must be enrolled as a funeral service student full- or part-time in an American Board of Funeral Service Education accredited program. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

 

Gamma Theta Upsilon-Geographical Honor Society

Harry S. Truman Research Grant

Award: $2,500, Deadline: April 1; October 1

Graduate students and post-doctoral scholars are most encouraged to apply, but others completing advanced research will be considered. Preference is given to research dealing with enduring public policy and foreign policy issues that have a high chance of being published or otherwise shared publicly. Applicants can receive up to two research grants in a five-year period. Grant winners must submit a report at the end of their studies.

 

ILA Jeanne S. Chall Research Fellowship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicants must be doctoral students planning or beginning their dissertation on one of the following topics in the field of reading: beginning reading, readability, reading difficulty, stages of reading development, the relation of vocabulary to reading and diagnosing and teaching adults with limited reading ability. Applicants must also be members of the International Literacy Association.

 

MLA Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: December 1

Applicants must be either entering or less than half-way through an accredited graduate school program in a field relevant to library science and be U.S. or Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

 

MLA Scholarship for Minority Students

Award: $5,000, Deadline: December 1

Applicants must be African-American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American or Pacific Islander and entering or currently attending an ALA-accredited library school and be no more than halfway through the program. Applicants must also be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada.

 

NHSC Scholarship

Applicants must be enrolled or accepted into allopathic or osteopathic medical schools, family nurse practitioner programs, nurse-midwifery programs, physician assistant programs or dental school. Upon completion of training, scholars must choose practice sites in federally designated health professional shortage areas for one year for each year of support received.

John Kelly Labor Studies Scholarship Fund

Award: $3,250, Deadline: March 31

Applicants must be members of OPEIU in good standing or associate members for at least two years, and applicants must be either undergraduate or graduate students in one of the following areas of study: labor studies, industrial relations, union leadership and administration or non-degree programs sponsored by the National Labor College at the George Meany Center or similar institution. The selections shall be based on recommendations of an academic scholarship committee.

 

Yanmar/SAE Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 15

Applicants must be full-time college juniors pursuing an engineering or related science degree or enrolled in a postgraduate engineering or related science program. Applicants must also pursue a course of study or research related to the conservation of energy in transportation, agriculture and construction and power generation.

 

SNMTS Paul Cole Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: January 31

Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be high school seniors or college undergraduates enrolled in or accepted by accredited institutions and be in the nuclear medicine technology field. Applicant must prove financial need.

 

SPIE Scholarships in Optics and Photonics

Award: $11,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicants must be high school, undergraduate or graduate students enrolled part-time or full-time in programs in the field of optics, photonics, imaging, optoelectronics program or related discipline (e.g., physics or electrical engineering). Students must be members of SPIE, although they may submit a membership application along with the scholarship application, and high school applicants receive a one-year complimentary membership. Applicants must also submit two sealed letters of reference.

 

NFMC Dorothy Dann Bullock Music Therapy Award and the NFMC Ruth B. Robertson Music Therapy Award

Award: $1,350, Deadline: March 1

Applicants must be college students majoring in music therapy in schools approved by the National Association of Music Therapists and AMTA. Selection is based on musical talent, skills and training with an emphasis on piano ability in accompanying and sight reading. Other selection criteria are self-reliance, leadership, ability to work with groups and dedication to music therapy as a career. Applicants must be members of the National Federation of Music Clubs.

Applicants must be members of the Association of Engineering Geologists who are college or graduate students. Applicants are chosen on the basis of scholarship, ability, participation and potential for contributions to the profession.

 

Donald F. and Mildred Topp Othmer Scholarships

Applicants must be members of an AIChE Student Chapter or Chemical Engineering Club. Applicants must be nominated by their student chapter advisors. Awards are presented on the basis of academic achievement and involvement in student chapter activities.

 

National Student Design Competition

APF/COGDOP Graduate Research Scholarships

Applicants must attend a school whose psychology department is a member in good standing of Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology (COGDOP). Applicants are nominated by their schools' departments with no more than three nominees at each school.

 

Benton-Meier Scholarships

Applicants must demonstrate need and demonstrate potential for a promising career in the field of neuropsychology. Applicants should also submit a letter that documents their scholarly and research accomplishments, financial need and how the award will be used.

 

Stoye and Storer Awards

Applicants must be the sole authors and presenters of their projects, be members of ASIH, be full-time students or have completed a thesis or dissertation defense during the previous 12 months. Presentations are judged by introduction, methods, data analysis and interpretation, conclusions, presentation and visual aids.

 

AIST Foundation Steel Research & Applications Grant

Award: $50,000, Deadline: June 30

Applicants are teams consisting of a qualified professor and undergraduate and graduate students. Teams will submit proposals for grant funding for research to benefit the steel industry and must be assisted by a steel industry representative currently employed with a steel producing company.
