Scholarships in Master's-level Study

Graduate Student Fellowship

Award: $4,500, Deadline: January 15

Selection based upon academic standing, scholarly qualifications, experience, and the quality of the research project or study proposed and its suitability to Smithsonian collections, facilities, and programs. Applicants must propose research in a field pursued at the Smithsonian and must offer a specific and detailed research proposal indicating why the Smithsonian is the appropriate place to conduct the studies proposed.

 

Cody Bachman Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: June 15

Applicant must be a lineal descendant of worthy Confederates or collateral descendant who is a member of the Children of the Confederacy or the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be enrolled in an accredited college or university, and carry a minimum of 12 hours each semester. Applicant must be prepared to pass entrance examination of prospective college or university. Applicant must submit proof of Confederate Military Record, line of descent from Confederate ancestor, a letter of endorsement from sponsoring Chapter, a letter of recommendation, complete financial report, official transcripts, an essay on the significance of a southern heritage, and a wallet-size photo. Original and four copies of the application forms and five copies of all documents, certificates, and letters must be submitted to the Division Director of Education. All inquiries must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

 

Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship

Award: $20,000, Deadline: December 3

Applicant must have a bachelor's degree in architecture, art, dance, landscape architecture, music, theater, regional or urban planning and be continuing on to graduate study. Preference will be given to applicants under the age of twenty-five.

 

Rita Levine Memorial Scholarship

Award: $600, Deadline: December 31

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen enrolled in an accredited college and must reside in a participating Mensa local group's area.

 

EPD Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be enrolled full-time and be a member of TMS. Preference is given to applicants who have participated in a relevant industrial co-op program.

 

John A. Knauss Sea Grant Fellowship

Award: $43,500, Deadline: February 29

Applicant must be attending an accredited U.S. institution and may apply through a local Sea Grant program. Selection based upon academic ability, communications skills, diversity and appropriateness of academic background, additional qualifying experience, support of major professor, and support of Sea Grant director. Other factors, such as geographical representation, disciplinary balance, and ability to work with others are considered.

 

Jessup and McHenry Awards

Award: -, Deadline: March 1; October 1

Applicant must be looking to conduct studies at the postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels under the supervision or sponsorship of a member of the curatorial staff of the Academy. Such studies may be in any specialty in which these curators have expertise.

 

AHEPA Educational Foundation National Scholarship Program

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 31

For a District to qualify and recommend a student for an AHEPA Educational Foundational National Scholarship, it must have: A viable, ongoing scholarship program administered by an established educational/scholarship entity such as a Foundation, a Committee, etc. The District educational/scholarship entity uses a vehicle such as an application to allow the student to apply for a scholarship, as well as use the information provided by the student, to rank the applicants. The District educational/scholarship entity must have awarded each year for the last two years at least two scholarships per year excluding the AHEPA Educational Foundation National Scholarship and at least $1,000 in scholarship awards per year. The student recommended for an AHEPA Educational Foundation National Scholarship has been selected using the same procedures as those that qualified applicants for the District Scholarships.

 

Minnesota Legionnaire Insurance Trust Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and legal resident of Minnesota who is also a veteran, a child of a veteran, or a grandchild of a veteran. Selection is based upon applicant's personal need, desire to continue education, and good record of school and community citizenship.

 

L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest Award

Award: $1,000, Deadline: December 31; March 31; June 30; September 30

Applicant must not be a professional writer with no more than three stories published in professional media (minimum 5,000 copies/hits) plus pay, and no novels published in professional media (5,000 copies/hits, plus pay). Contest is for science fiction and fantasy stories of up to 17,000 words in length, for new and amateur writers. Entrants retain all publication rights. Recipients receive prize money, plus an all-expenses-paid trip to a seven day professional writers workshop and awards ceremony.

 

Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC)

Applicant must be a college graduate; have a minimum GRE score of 1050; demonstrate manual and studio skills; have completed course work in archaeology, art history, chemistry, and studio art; and have at least 400 hours of art conservation experience. Fellowship is offered as part of U of Delaware's M.S. program in art conservation.

 

William C. Foster Fellows Visiting Scholars Program

Western Regional Graduate Program

Mollie Butler Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or college student who is interested in an equine or related field.

 

Maine Veterans Dependent Educational Benefits

Award: -, Deadline: None

Applicant must be a spouse or child of a veteran who is permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected cause, and must plan to attend a public Maine school. Veteran must have been resident of Maine at time of entry into service or have been a resident five years prior to application. Award is for a two- or four-year degree program.

 

U.S. National Arboretum Internship

Applicant must have completed work in a related field. Resume, transcripts, cover letter, and references are required to be submitted.

 

Trout Unlimited Graduate Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must be enrolled or have been selected to matriculate as a full-time graduate student at Colorado State University. Applicant must study fisheries biology, fisheries management, water quality related to coldwater fisheries or conservation with emphasis on salmonid species and their ecosystems.

 

Thomas F. Seay Scholarship

Applicant must be an Illinois resident enrolled in an real estate related program and have a minimum 3.5 GPA.

 

Ray C. Janeway Scholarship

Applicant must be a resident of Texas and attend an institution in Texas.

 

Delta Phi Epsilon Scholarship

Applicant must be a member of Delta Phi Epsilon or the child or grandchild of a member.

 

Leopold Schepp Foundation Scholarship

Award: $9,000, Deadline: Varies

Applicants must be high-school seniors or undergraduates, under age 30. Graduate applicants must be under age 40. Students must be citizens or permanent residents with a minimum GPA of 3.3 and must enroll full-time in a four-year bachelor degree program or approved graduate program. Eligibility is determined by character as exhibited by references, by ability and by financial need.

 

Junior Fellows Summer Intern Program

Award: $3,000, Deadline: January 27

Applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student who is currently enrolled in a degree-granting program of study at an accredited institution. This program offers undergraduate and graduate students insights into the environment and culture of the world's largest and most comprehensive repository of human knowledge. Interns will be exposed to a broad spectrum of library work: copyright, preservation, reference, access standards, and information management. Interns inventory, catalog, arrange, preserve, and research a backlog of copyright or special collections in many different formats in various divisions, and assist with digital preservation outreach activities throughout the Library. Near the end of their appointment at the Library, the interns join together to present a one-day display of historically significant and compelling gems they found in the course of their work. The display is open to members of Congress, Library staff, and the press.

 

JVS Scholarship Fund

Applicant must be a Jewish, permanent legal resident of Los Angeles County with demonstrated financial need. Applicant must be planning to attend as full-time student at an approved college, university, vocational school, graduate school or professional school. FAFSA must be filed.

 

Diversity Scholarship

Applicant must be of ethnically/racially/culturally diverse background.

 

Gilbert Chin Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be studying subjects in relation to electronic, magnetic and/or photonic materials and be a member of TMS. Preference given to applicants enrolled full time in a program that studies electronic materials.

 

SMD Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be enrolled full time and be a member of TMS. Preference is given to seniors enrolled full time in an engineering program related to the structure, property, and processing of materials.

 

International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be a member of TMS, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to an applicant planning a career in superalloys.

 

Medical Student Loan

Award: $5,000, Deadline: May 15

Applicant must be a medical student obtaining a M.D. or D.O. degree. Applicant must have established permanent ties to Broome County, NY, and be attending an accredited medical or osteopathic institution in the United States or Canada.

 

O. S. Braunstein Student Prize Award

Award: $2,000, Deadline: n/a

Applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at an accredited university/institution with a 2015 or later graduation date. An original research paper on a topic pertaining to the conference theme and topic(s) is required. The paper must be authored by a single student or co-authored with fellow students. Papers with faculty members as co-authors are ineligible. Recipient must present the winning paper at PTC's annual conference and allow the paper to be published on the PTC website and as part of the conference proceedings (CD/DVD).
