Applicant must be a member of AGU who is a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. Program is aimed at geoscientists with a doctorate degree; however, there are no absolute restrictions on age, educational or career level, or specific scientific background.

Applicant must hold at least a bachelor's degree in geoscience, engineering, physics, chemistry, computer science, math, or geography. Applicant must be able to demonstrate a history of academic excellence and native fluency in Arabic, demonstrate English proficiency, exhibit exceptional leadership skills and cultural competency, be willing and able to travel to a regional location for a final selection activity, and be willing and able to reside in the United States for the full duration of study. Award is to assist in the completion of a master's or Ph.D. degree.

Applicant must be a master's student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas graduate college pursuing a degree in astronomy, chemistry, geoscience, or physics. Preference given to students in physics or astronomy. Minimum 3.5 GPA, resume, statement of purpose, unofficial transcript, and one letter of recommendation required. Recipient must remain in good standing in degree program and complete a minimum of six graduate credits each semester of the scholarship year.
