Applicant must be a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, have a minimum "B" grade average, have been selected as District Scholar of the Year, be a U.S. citizen, and submit an application, transcripts, and supporting data.

 

Leo S. Rowe Pan American Fund, Interest-Free Loan Program

Applicant must be Latin American or Caribbean citizen with an international student visa (F, J, or M) allowing them to study full-time in the United States. Applicant must be accepted as full-time student in an accredited institution of higher learning.

 

Graduate Fellowship

Applicant must have a B.S. degree in food science, biochemistry, dairy science, or a closely-related field and must be willing to serve an internship and pursue a career in the confectionery industry. Interview required. Selection is based upon expressed interest, undergraduate grades, GRE scores, work experiences, and references. Award includes a six-week industry internship.

 

James Renwick Fellowship in American Crafts

Applicant must be knowledgeable in the history of twentieth-century to contemporary American art/craft and must submit research proposal. Selection is based upon applicant's academic standing, scholarly qualifications, experience, and the quality of the research project or study proposed and its suitability to Smithsonian collections, facilities, and programs. Preference is given to proposals concentrating on post-1930 craft developments or their historical antecedents.

Predoctoral Fellowship

Award: $20,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must have completed preliminary coursework and examinations for the doctoral degree and be engaged in dissertation research. Candidates are evaluated on their academic standing, scholarly qualifications, experience, and the quality of the research project or study proposed and its suitability to Smithsonian collections, facilities, and programs. Recipients are expected to spend most of their tenure in residence at the Smithsonian, except when arrangements are made for periods of field work or research travel.

 

Graduate Student Fellowship

Award: $4,500, Deadline: January 15

Selection based upon academic standing, scholarly qualifications, experience, and the quality of the research project or study proposed and its suitability to Smithsonian collections, facilities, and programs. Applicants must propose research in a field pursued at the Smithsonian and must offer a specific and detailed research proposal indicating why the Smithsonian is the appropriate place to conduct the studies proposed.

 

Dibner Library Resident Scholars

Applicant must be working on a topic relating to the history of science and technology and who can make substantial use of collections in the Dibner Library. Historians, librarians, doctoral students, and post-doctoral scholars are welcome to apply. Scholars must be in residence at the Dibner Library during the award period.

 

Mandell and Lester Rosenblatt Undergraduate Scholarship

Applicant must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen. Applicant must be a member of SNAME in good standing.

 

Cody Bachman Scholarship

Applicant must be a lineal descendant of worthy Confederates or collateral descendant who is a member of the Children of the Confederacy or the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be enrolled in an accredited college or university, and carry a minimum of 12 hours each semester. Applicant must be prepared to pass entrance examination of prospective college or university. Applicant must submit proof of Confederate Military Record, line of descent from Confederate ancestor, a letter of endorsement from sponsoring Chapter, a letter of recommendation, complete financial report, official transcripts, an essay on the significance of a southern heritage, and a wallet-size photo. Original and four copies of the application forms and five copies of all documents, certificates, and letters must be submitted to the Division Director of Education. All inquiries must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

 

Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship

Applicant must have a bachelor's degree in architecture, art, dance, landscape architecture, music, theater, regional or urban planning and be continuing on to graduate study. Preference will be given to applicants under the age of twenty-five.

 

Rita Levine Memorial Scholarship

EPD Scholarship

Helen N. & Harold B. Shapira Heart Scholarship

Applicant must be a resident of Minnesota, attending an institution in Minnesota, and working in a medically related curriculum with potential application to patients with disease of the heart and blood vessel system.

 

John A. Knauss Sea Grant Fellowship

Applicant must be attending an accredited U.S. institution and may apply through a local Sea Grant program. Selection based upon academic ability, communications skills, diversity and appropriateness of academic background, additional qualifying experience, support of major professor, and support of Sea Grant director. Other factors, such as geographical representation, disciplinary balance, and ability to work with others are considered.

 

Jessup and McHenry Awards

Applicant must be looking to conduct studies at the postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels under the supervision or sponsorship of a member of the curatorial staff of the Academy. Such studies may be in any specialty in which these curators have expertise.

 

Glenn/AFAR Breakthrough in Gerontology Awards

Award: $200,000, Deadline: December 15

Applicant must be a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher with a strong record of independent publication beyond the postdoctoral level. The proposed research in the basic biology of aging must be conducted at any type of not-for-profit setting in the United States. Former AFAR Research Grant awardees may apply.
