Scholarships in Fine Arts

Marquis Scholarship

Award: $34,500, Deadline: January 1 (admissions); February 1 (financial aid)

Selection is based upon academic record, GPA, class rank, standardized test scores, and involvement in school, community, or fine arts programs.

 

Larry Temple Scholarship

Award: $7,000, Deadline: December 1

Preference is given to an applicant majoring in liberal arts, fine arts, or social work, and to Texas residents.

 

MESBEC Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: April 15 (fall); September 15 (spring); March 15 (summer)

Applicant must be at least one-quarter Native American and be an enrolled member of a U.S. tribe that is federally recognized, state-recognized, or terminated, with high GPA and test scores and be enrolled in an accredited college or university.

 

Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award

Award: $18,000, Deadline: None

Grants are intended for art students and artists in the early or developmental stage of their career. Applicants must work in a figurative or representational style of painting, drawing, sculpture, or printmaking and be committed to making the practice of their art a lifetime career. Grants are intended to assist applicants in the study or practice of their art, and the costs associated therewith, such as tuition, studio rental, model fees, travel, and living expenses. Eligible courses of study or training include undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate studies and diploma programs from accredited institutions, recognized residencies, apprenticeships/internships, and studio training. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of their application. Grants are available to students and artists around the world.

 

Rome Prize Fellowship

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident for at least three years at the time of application.

 

F. Lammont Belin Arts Scholarship

Award: $12,000, Deadline: December 15

Applicants must reside or have resided in the Abingtons or Pocono Northeast region of Pennsylvania and be a U.S. citizen.

 

Murphy Fine Arts Fellowship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must be nominated by an instructor at his or her institution, must have completed at least one semester of graduate study, and must have at least two semesters remaining before graduation. Artwork submitted must have been completed within the past two years.

 

Paul Collins Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, demonstrate artistic talent, and be a resident of Kent County, Mich. Selection is based upon academic achievement, extracurricular activities, personal statement, and financial need.

 

Vermont Alliance for Arts Education (VAAE) Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior from Vermont who will pursue a degree in the arts at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Financial need, academic achievement and significant skill and talent in an artistic medium must be demonstrated.

 

Harriet A. Shaw Fellowship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: Early January

Applicant must be a woman and a graduate of Wellesley College who plans to pursue further study or research abroad or in the U.S. Preference is given to music applicants and to those who have not previously held the award. Other applicants must have undergraduate background in art history. Selection is based upon merit and need.

 

John and Ruth Maciag Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Rutland County, VT who will pursue education or training in architecture, architectural engineering, computer graphics and animation, fine arts, interior design, studio art, or a related field. Financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Senator James M. Jeffords Endowed Scholarship to Honor Marion Hausman Jeffords

Award: $1,500, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a graduating senior who will pursue a degree in the arts at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Academic achievement and financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Community and Folk Arts Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: Varies

Applicant must have graduated from a Ventura County high school, be enrolled at an accredited college or university, and demonstrate an interest in the arts.

 

J. Clawson Mills Fellowship

Award: $20,000, Deadline: November 4

Applicant must submit typed application, full resume of education and employment, official transcripts, and a two-part statement not to exceed 1,000 words. Preference is given to mature scholars of demonstrated ability. Award is for study or research at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

 

Clara B. Small Scholarship

Award: $1,200, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be a nontraditional student with a minimum 3.5 GPA who is enrolled at least half-time in the School of Arts and Sciences or the School of Education. One award is for an English major.

 

Chancellor's Scholarship

Award: $6,500, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, with a minimum 92 admission average including six OACs or equivalent, and must meet extracurricular or community excellence criteria. Award is in Canadian dollars.

 

Conway/Proetz Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: None

Applicant must apply to the College of Art and submit a slide or digital portfolio of 12-15 pieces. Selection is based upon academic/artistic merit.

 

Ben Barnett Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a full-time student in the Sch of Art and have a minimum 3.0 GPA and an outstanding portfolio.

 

Pennies for Art Scholarship

Award: $800, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must attend a Massachusetts high school and must submit a letter of endorsement from the president of the sponsoring GFWC of Massachusetts club in the community of legal residence, a recommendation from high school art teacher, a letter stating goals, and portfolio of three examples of original work. SASE required.

 

Performing and Creative Arts Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: December 1

Applicant must have a minimum 90 unweighted grade average and a minimum combined SAT I score of 1150 and must complete the audition process.

 

Nordan Fine Arts Program

Award: $8,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must demonstrate exceptional talent in art, ballet and modern dance, music, or theatre.

 

Adele Hane Chappell Curtis Memorial Scholarship

Award: $750, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA.

 

Leadership and Community Service Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: January 30

Applicant must have demonstrated leadership and community service experience.

 

Rex Howell Memorial Fund

Applicant must be a full-time student with a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

 

Henry & Chiyo Kuwahara Creative Arts Award

Award: $5,000, Deadline: April 1

Award is to encourage creative projects reflecting the Japanese-American experience and providing cultural representation. Applicant must be a member of JACL. Selection is based upon personal statement, letters of recommendation, transcripts, work experience, and community involvement. Professional artists are not eligible.

 

Honors Challenge Scholarship

Applicant must be a traditionally underrepresented student (minority and/or economically or educationally disadvantaged), enrolled in the School of Arts and Sciences. Selection based upon academic achievement in high school and SAT or ACT results.

 

Chester Dale Fellowship

Award: $26,000, Deadline: November 3

Applicant must be studying fine art of the western world. Preference given to American citizens under the age of 40. Award is for research at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

 

Andrew W. Mellon Conservation Fellowship

Award: $22,500, Deadline: January 5

Applicant should have reached an advanced level of experience or training.

 

Polaire Weissman Fund for Conservation Fellowship

Award: $22,500, Deadline: January 5

Applicant must be interested in a career in costume, and have an advanced level of study in costume conservation. Selection is based upon: full resume, a statement not to exceed one thousand words, describing what the applicant expects to accomplish and how the museum's facilities can be utilized to achieve their objectives, tentative work schedule, three letters of recommendation, at least one academic, and one professional, and an official transcript.

 

Jane and Morgan Whitney Fellowship

Award: $24,000, Deadline: November 4

Applicant must be studying in a field related to a collection of the museum. Preference given to applicant in the decorative arts who is under the age of 40. Award is for research at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
