Scholarships in High School Senior

Brian Thiele Memorial Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or who is attending a high school within Kalamazoo County, planning to pursue a certificate or two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student. Applicant must have participated for four years on their high school soccer team.

 

CIS/Kalamazoo Public Education Foundation Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating senior at one of the following high schools: Kalamazoo Central High School, Loy Norrix High School, or Kalamazoo Alternative Public High School. Applicant must be planning to enroll as a full-time student studying education at an accredited college or university.

 

Clarence L. Remynse Scholarship

Award: $7,500, Deadline: December 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is a permanent resident of Kalamazoo County for a minimum of 12 months prior to application or a graduating high school senior who has been enrolled in a high school within Kalamazoo County for a minimum of 12 months prior to application. Appliacnt must plan to enroll full-time in a regionally accredited college or university in a course of study that leads to a bachelor's degree in business, science (including mathematics and engineering), law, education, psychology or medicine. Financial need is required.

 

Danial and Joeanna Smith Education Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be a resident of Van Buren County who is a graduating high school senior planning to enroll as a full-time student in a bachelors degree program at a four-year college or university. Minimum 3.5 GPA, participation in extracurricular activities, and financial need are required.

 

David and Barbara Kruse Paw Paw High School Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or graduate of Paw Paw High School who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a technical school trade school or community college in a course of study that will lead to a career in the field of technology (e.g. auto technician, graphic design, information or manufacturing technology). Minimum 2.0 GPA, extracurricular or community volunteer activities, and work experience are required.

 

Derek Jeter Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or currently attending a Kalamazoo County high school and is planning to enroll as a full-time student in an accredited college or university. Minimum 3.0 GPA and minimum composite ACT score of 21 are required. Applicant must be able to demonstrate leadership including fitness and sportsmanship in the school and community while advocating a substance-free lifestyle.

 

Edmond B. Woodruff and Beth Woodruff Shipman Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,200, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a Kalamazoo County graduating high school senior or a high school senior attending a Kalamazoo County high school who has participated extensively in extra-curricular activities and has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. Applicant must be planning to enroll as a full-time student in a four-year college or university. Minimum 3.8 GPA and minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 1320 (composite ACT score of 30) required.

 

Evelyn Prince Memorial Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a female graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or is currently attending a Kalamazoo County high school or high school that participates in the Greater Kalamazoo High School Women's Golf Tournament. Applicant must have been a member of the high school varsity golf team for at least their junior and/or senior year. Minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstration of school and community involvement are required.

 

Gail and Hilda Oster Scholarship Fund

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a Van Buren County resident who is a graduating senior or graduate enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in a bachelor's degree program at the University of Michigan or Western Michigan University in education or mathematics; or is planning to pursue/is pursuing training at Michigan State University in the School of Veterinary Medicine. Minimum 2.75 GPA (3.0 GPA for graduate students) and financial need are required.

 

High on Heroes Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or student already enrolled in a post-secondary institution. Applicant must be the family member (child, stepchild, grandchild, step-grandchild, or spouse) of a person employed as a certified law enforcement officer; certified firefighter; or licensed EMT medical first responder or paramedic within Kalamazoo County; or family member of a person retired from one of the above professions in Kalamazoo County. Minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstration of financial need are required. Kalamazoo County residence is not required.

 

James W. and Thelma Garside Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating senior of Gull Lake High School who is planning to attend a Michigan college or university as a full-time student. Minimum 3.0 GPA, participation in school and community activities, part-time work history, and demonstration of financial need required.

 

Jean Hunse Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a Kalamazoo County high school senior or current undergraduate or graduating high school senior or graduate of a Kalamazoo County high school planning to enroll or currently enrolled in business at Western Michigan University. Minimum 3.5 GPA and financial need are required.

 

Kalamazoo Science Foundation Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or graduate who is a Kalamazoo County resident or is a graduating high school senior or graduate of a Kalamazoo County high school. Applicant must be planning to attend a four-year university or college full-time and major in science, mathematics or engineering (does not include architecture, nursing or allied health professions). Minimum 3.5 GPA (3.0 for college undergraduates) and financial need are required.

 

Partners in Education

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or currently attending a Kalamazoo County high school. Applicant must be planning to enroll full time in a bachelor's degree program at a regionally accredited college or university within the State of Michigan. GPA between 2.8 and 3.8, school/community involvement, and financial need are required.

 

Ronald C. Cavanaugh Memorial Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or attending a high school within Kalamazoo County who is planning to enroll at Western Michigan University as a full-time student, pursuing a major in the school of business. GPA must be between 2.5 and 3.5. Evidence of leadership and potential for success in the field of business is required.

 

Roy G. Walters Memorial Scholarship

Award: $600, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or is attending high school within Kalamazoo County. Applicant must be planning to enroll in an accredited college or university as a full-time student in the fall. Involvement in athletics, school, and community activities and financial need are required.

 

Schwenk Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or currently attending a Kalamazoo County High School and planning to pursue an elementary education degree. Leadership and academic achievement are required.

 

The Montague Myers Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a Kalamazoo County resident attending high school or a student enrolled in or graduated from a high school within Kalamazoo County who was orphaned, abused, abandoned, or neglected as a child according to legal documentation. Applicant must be planning to pursue vocational or technical training or a two- or four-year degree. Financial need is required.

 

Wade and Clio Van Valkenburg Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a Kalamazoo County resident who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a vocational, technical or trade school or a two- or four-year college or university. Applicant must have, either through a plea bargain or conviction, been found guilty of a criminal offense and be able to document how they have overcome adversity and/or obstacles in his or her life. Financial need is required.

 

Weber Specialties Company Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a Kalamazoo County high school senior or college undergraduate or graduating or graduated from a Kalamazoo County high school who is planning to earn a certificate or two- or four-year degree in a manufacturing curriculum such as manufacturing technology, manufacturing engineering or integrated supply management.

 

William R. Steers Kalamazoo Community Foundation Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or who attends school within Kalamazoo County and is planning to enroll full-time in Albion College who shows extensive participation in extra-curricular and community activities as well as outstanding academic achievement measured by grade point average and test scores. Minimum 3.0 GPA required.

 

Roma Holmes Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 12

Applicant must be a graduating senior of Buchanan High School who plans to enroll at an accredited post-secondary institution. Financial need, leadership, and community service must be demonstrated.

 

Walter E. Schirmer Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 12

Applicant must be a graduating senior of Buchanan High School who is a resident of the Buchanan Community School District. Applicant must have participated in school and/or community activities and show exemplary citizen and leadership experience. Minimum 3.0 GPA and interview are required.

 

Ruediger and Karin Kappe Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 12

Applicant must be graduating senior from Buchanan High School who participated in the soccer program. and is enrolled at an accredited institution of higher learning. Selection based upon financial need; evidence of leadership and citizenship through school, community, and/or personal activities; community service and volunteerism; and participation in the Buchanan High School soccer program, with clear demonstration of team leadership, good sportsmanship, and unselfish team play.

 

Ann Coulston Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 12

Applicant must be a graduating senior of Brandywine High School who has participated in school and/or community activities and shows exemplary citizen and leadership experience. Minimum 3.0 GPA and interview are required.

 

Class of 1973 Alumni Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 12

Applicant must be a graduating senior of Brandywine High School who has been accepted as a full-time student at any accredited post-secondary institution in the United States. Significant financial need and interview are required.

 

Jay and Cecile McCombs Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 12

Applicant must be a graduating senior of Brandywine High School who has been accepted as a full-time student at an accredited post-secondary institution in the United States. Financial need and interview are required.

 

Niles Buchanan Rotary Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 12

Applicant must be a graduating senior at Niles, Brandywine, or Buchanan High Schools who is enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited post-secondary institution.

 

George and Margaret Contois Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 12

Applicant must be a Niles High School senior who expresses academic excellence, good character exhibited by good citizenship, and excellent leadership. Minimum 3.0 GPA and interview required.

 

Jeanne Griffin Memorial Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 12

Applicant must be a graduating senior of Niles High School who is planning to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student. Applicant must indicate a career interest in teaching. Citizenship and leadership through participation in school and/or community activities required and interview are required.
