Foundation Scholarships

Applicants must be qualified Alaska Native beneficiaries who plan to attend or are currently attending undergraduate or graduate institutions. There are a number of awards based on field of study or career goal. Applicants must submit applications, proof of eligibility, reference letter, transcripts, purpose statements and proof of enrollment.

 

Clara Abbott Foundation Scholarship Program

Applicants must be full- or part-time students at an accredited college, university, community college, vocational school or trade school. Applicants must also be between 17 and 24 years of age, be the children or dependents of retirees or full-time/part-time employees with at least two years of continuous service to Abbott Laboratories and be residents of the United States or Puerto Rico. Scholarships are awarded according to financial need. Applicants may first apply as high school seniors.

 

San Jose State University - Cal Grant

Award: $12,240, Deadline: March 2

Applicants must be California residents and U.S. citizens, permanent residents or eligible non-citizens. Applicants must also submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 2 of each year. A certified grade point average (GPA) report must be filed with the California Student Aid Commission. Colorado Student Grant

Applicants must be Colorado residents who plan to enroll or are enrolled in eligible programs at eligible Colorado postsecondary institutions. Applicants must make satisfactory academic progress and have not defaulted in educational loans or grants. Awards are need-based and merit-based and are made by institutions to students.

 

CWA Joe Beirne Foundation Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: April 30

Applicants may be Communications Workers of America (CWA) members, their spouses, their children or their grandchildren. Applicants must be high school graduates or at least high school students who will graduate during the year in which they apply. Winners are selected by a lottery drawing. This is a two-year scholarship.

 

Connecticut Aid for Public College Students

Applicants must be Connecticut residents attending a public Connecticut college or university. The award is based on financial need.

Governor's Scholarship - Need and Merit-Based Award

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicants must be a high school senior or high school graduate with a high school junior year class rank of 20 percent or better. Students must have a minimum SAT score of 1800 or ACT score of 27 and plan to attend a Connecticut public or non-profit private college. Selection is based on financial need and academic merit.

District of Columbia Tuition Assistance Grant

Award: $10,000, Deadline: June 30

Applicants must be residents of Washington, DC for at least 12 months before the start of their freshman year of college, high school graduates or GED recipients, enrolled at least half-time at an eligible institution and be 24 years of age or younger. Applicants must maintain satisfactory academic progress, not have defaulted on student loans, have registered with the Selective Service, be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have not already received a B.A. or B.S. and have not been incarcerated. The award provides up to $10,000 a year for the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition at public four year institutions in the U.S. and up to $2,500 per year for private colleges in DC, private Historically Black Colleges and Universities or two-year colleges nationwide.

Applicants must be accepted to an accredited college, university or aviation technical school pursuing a course of study focusing on aviation. Applicants must also be involved in school and community activities as well as aviation. Recipient must show need for financial support.

 

Global Citizen Scholarship

Applicants must be college-bound high school students in the U.S. or Canada nominated by their schools and must write an essay or create a video or digital media project on a topic related to global citizenship. The award involves a paid educational trip to Europe.

Applicants must be young women who are in their junior or senior year of high school and members of a Girls Incorporated affiliate.

 

Print and Graphics Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicants must be high school seniors, high school graduates or college students enrolled in a two- or four-year college printing or graphics program. Applicants must be full-time students, be interested in a career in printing technology, printing management, publishing or graphic communications and able to maintain a 3.0 GPA.

ISIA Education Foundation Scholarship

Applicants must have completed at least three years of high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA during the last two years and enroll as full-time undergraduate students. Applicants must also have been members of the Ice Skating Institute (ISI), have participated in the ISI Recreational Skater Program for at least four years and have completed 120 hours of volunteer service. Applicants must also submit two evaluation forms and an essay of 500 words or less explaining why they should receive the award.

The applicant's parent member must have two years of continuous good standing membership, and applicants must be in their senior year of high school. Selection is based on grades, attitude, references, test scores and activities outside of school.

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Scholarship for Members

Award: $2,000, Deadline: February 24

Applicants must be an IAM member who has two years of continuous good standing membership or the child of a member who has two years of continuous good standing membership. Applicants may be entering college or vocational/technical school as a freshman or at a higher level with some college credits already completed. Grades, attitude, references, test scores, activities and participation in local lodge are considered in selecting scholarship recipients.

 

International Trumpet Guild Conference Scholarship

Chopin Piano Competition

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents or international full-time students with valid student visas and must be between the ages of 16 and 22. Applicants are required to prepare a repertoire of works by designated composers. There is a $50 nonrefundable application fee.

 

Lotte Lenya Competition

Award: $20,000, Deadline: January 23

Applicants must be between 19 and 32 years old and attend a regional competition, performing four selections. If contestants are unable to participate in any of the scheduled regional auditions, they may instead submit a DVD, which must contain all four of the required repertoire selections. Finalists will be chosen, based on vocal beauty and technique, interpretation, acting, repertoire variety and presence.
