Non-Resident Academic Partial Tuition Scholarship

Applicant must be a high school senior who will be an entering freshman and who is not a resident of Utah. Selection is based upon scholastic record.

 

Law Enforcement Officers and Fireman Scholarship

Applicant must be the spouse or child of a full-time Mississippi law enforcement officer or firefighter who was fatally injured or totally disabled from injuries that occurred in the line of duty. Applicant must attend a Mississippi public college or university. Children are eligible until age 23.

 

Eagle Scout Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a registered, active member of a Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Scout Team, or Venturing Crew chartered to an American Legion Post, Auxiliary Unit or Sons of The American Legion Squadron. Or, be a registered, active member of a duly chartered Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Scout Team, or Venturing Crew, and the son or grandson of a Legionnaire or Auxiliary member. Applicant must have received the Eagle Scout, be an active member of his religious institution and must have received the appropriate Boy Scout religious emblem, have demonstrated practical citizenship in church, school, Scouting, and community, have reached his 15th birthday and be enrolled in a Tennessee High School at the time of selection.

 

National Oratorical Contest Scholarship

Award: $19,000, Deadline: December

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident under 20 years of age, must be attending high school or junior high, and must compete in the American Legion oratorical contest at the national level. Award must be used at a college or university in the U.S. for actual school costs, including tuition, room and board, fees, and books.

 

American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year

Award: $10,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be the son or grandson of an American Legion or auxiliary member and must be either an Eagle Scout who has received a scout religious emblem, a registered active member of a Boy Scout troop or Varsity Scout team sponsored by an American Legion post or auxiliary unit, or a registered active member of a duly chartered Boy Scout troop or Varsity Scout team.

 

Junior Girls Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: March 11

Applicant must be 13 to 16 years old, have been an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary Junior Girls Unit for at least one year, and have held an office in the unit. Three letters of recommendation (one from a school teacher, a Junior Girls leader, and one other person of the applicant's choice) and school transcript are required.

 

Eight and Forty Lung and Respiratory Nursing Scholarship

Applicant must be a registered nurse seeking advanced preparation for a full-time position in supervision, administration, or teaching with a direct relationship to lung and respiratory control.

First priority is given to a graduate of Tamassee-Salem High School who resided at Tamassee DAR School in Tamassee, S.C., or a graduate of the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School in Grant, Ala. Next preference goes to the child of a member in good standing of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Written documentation of eligibility is required.
