Scholarships in Master's-level Study

International Teacher Education Scholarship Program

Award: $10,000, Deadline: January 1

Applicants must be single women with no dependents, between 20 and 35 years of age. Eligibility is restricted to non-U.S. citizens living outside the U.S. Applicants must have received an undergraduate degree and be eligible to receive a master's degree. However, the program is not intended for doctoral students. Students must intend to enter the field of teaching or be engaged in the teaching profession.

 

John N. Sturdivant Scholarship Program

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicants must be AFGE members in good standing or AFGE employees. Applicants must also be students in good standing at any accredited college.

 

Beatrice S. Jacobson Memorial Fund

Award: -, Deadline: April 1

Applicants must be AGMA members in good standing for at least two years who are full- or part-time, traditional or adult students working toward either undergraduate or graduate degrees. The award is based on financial need and GPA. Applicants don't have to be music majors.

 

William and Dorothy Ferrell Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicants must be legally blind, with a vision of 20/200 or less in the best eye or 20 degrees or less in the visual field. Applicants must also study in college or a similar institution in the field of services for the blind or visually impaired. Scholarships are only awarded in the even-numbered years.

 

BCTGM International Scholarship Program

Award: $2,000, Deadline: January 31

Applicants must be members of the BCTGM in good standing or the children of such members. The scholarships are also open to office employees and children of those employed at the International Union office. Applicants must be high school students who will be attending an accredited college, technical college or vocational school for the first time, high school graduates who have never attended college or BCTGM members who have never applied to the program before who are currently enrolled or planning to begin or resume their studies in the fall. All applicants are required to take the SAT or an equivalent, such as the ACT.

 

BLET Auxiliary Scholarships

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April 1

Applicants must be the children of both a BLET Auxiliary and BLET member (living or deceased) and enrolled or accepted by an accredited university, college or institute of higher learning. If the applicant is a graduate student or returning to school as a sophomore, junior or senior, he or she must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Selection is based on academic record, leadership, character and personal achievement.

 

Foundation Scholarships

Award: $20,000, Deadline: June 1

Applicants must be qualified Alaska Native beneficiaries who plan to attend or are currently attending undergraduate or graduate institutions. There are a number of awards based on field of study or career goal. Applicants must submit applications, proof of eligibility, reference letter, transcripts, purpose statements and proof of enrollment.

 

CWA Joe Beirne Foundation Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: April 30

Applicants may be Communications Workers of America (CWA) members, their spouses, their children or their grandchildren. Applicants must be high school graduates or at least high school students who will graduate during the year in which they apply. Winners are selected by a lottery drawing. This is a two-year scholarship.

 

Outstanding Student Member of the Year Award

Award: -, Deadline: November 7

Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in an accredited college or university and be U.S. or Canadian citizens. Students must also be student CEC members who have contributed to the organization and exceptional children. Applicants must submit a list of their Student CEC activities and/or other involvement with programs for those with disabilities and a short autobiography focusing on their interest in special education.

 

International Trumpet Guild Conference Scholarship

Applicants must be students and record audition songs onto a tape or CD. There are different age group categories, and each category has its own performance requirements. Applicants must be ITG members.

 

Lotte Lenya Competition

Award: $20,000, Deadline: January 23

Applicants must be between 19 and 32 years old and attend a regional competition, performing four selections. If contestants are unable to participate in any of the scheduled regional auditions, they may instead submit a DVD, which must contain all four of the required repertoire selections. Finalists will be chosen, based on vocal beauty and technique, interpretation, acting, repertoire variety and presence.

 

MLA/NLM Spectrum Scholarship

Applicants must be American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students attending accredited library schools who are studying fields relevant to library science and who plan to enter the health sciences information field.

 

Constance Eberhardt Memorial Award, AIMS Graz Experience Scholarship and Banff Center School of Fine Arts Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: October 16

Applicants must be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs or the equivalent and be between the ages of 18 and 24. The applicants' teachers must be members of the National Opera Association. Selection is based on a recording of two arias for preliminary hearings and a live audition of four arias for the final judging. There is a $20 entry fee.

 

American Indian Scholarship

Award: $4,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicants must be Native Americans with papers proving Native American blood, have a minimum 3.25 GPA and demonstrate financial need and academic achievement. Graduate students are eligible, but preference is given to undergraduate students. Undergraduate students may attend a college, university or technical school. No affiliation with DAR is required.

 

Alice W. Rooke Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 10

Applicants must be accepted into or enrolled in a graduate course of study to become a medical doctor. All applicants must obtain a letter of sponsorship from their local DAR chapter. However, affiliation with DAR is not required.

 

Irene and Daisy MacGregor Memorial Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 10

Applicants must be accepted into or enrolled in a graduate course of study to become a medical doctor. Those pursuing study in psychiatric nursing at the graduate level at a medical school may also apply, and preference is given to females. All applicants must obtain a letter of sponsorship from their local DAR chapter. However, affiliation with DAR is not required.

 

Earl Nightengale Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: May 19

Applicants must be entering full-time undergraduate juniors, seniors or graduate students who wish to become professional speakers. Selection is based on application, essay, recommendation and college transcript.

 

SPIE Travel Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: September 15

Applicants must be high school, college or graduate students who are planning to attend conferences and exhibitions organized by SPIE. Applicants must be full-time or part-time students who are enrolled in an optics or photonics program at an accredited school. The students must also submit two letters of recommendation. Selection is based on the merit of the application, based on the experience and education level of the individual student.

 

John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship Fund for Art Education

Award: $5,000, Deadline: January 31

Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 and must submit no more than 10 of their paintings or drawing work for judging along with a letter outlining the applicant's ambitions and plans. Submissions should be in the form of digital images on a disk with a dpi of 150. Letters of recommendation will also be taken into account during selection.

 

Tri Delta Graduate Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicants must be an initiated member of Delta Delta Delta in good standing and a graduate student enrolled for the entire academic year. Selection is based on academic achievement, financial need, community involvement and future promise.

 

UMWA/BCOA Training and Education Fund

Award: -, Deadline: Open

Applicants must be miners unemployed from the coal industry with at least five years in classified employment. The spouses or children (below age 25) of eligible unemployed or working miners are also eligible for benefits. Grants are awarded based on the recommendation of one or more panels chosen by UMWA and the Bituminous Coal Association.

 

College Television Awards

Award: -, Deadline: January 31

Applicants must produce an original film or video in one of the following categories: drama, comedy, music, documentary, news, magazine show, traditional or computer-generated animation, children's programming or commercials. Professionals may not be involved in the production of the piece, including producers, directors, camera operators, lighting or sound technicians and production managers. Applicants must also be full-time students who have produced their video for course credit at an American college or university from January 1 to December 31 of the current year.

 

NFMC Hinda Honigman Award for the Blind

Award: $800, Deadline: February 1

Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 25, be an instrumentalist or vocalist and submit an affidavit from an ophthalmologist stating that they are blind. Applicants must also be affiliated with the National Federation of Music Clubs.

 

Past Presidents' Parley Nursing Scholarships

Award: $4,000, Deadline: First Friday in April

Applicants must be residents of California, enrolled or planning to enroll in a nursing program and be the wife, husband, widow, widower or child of a veteran or be veterans themselves.

 

AGC Graduate Scholarships

Award: $7,500, Deadline: November 1

Applicants must be college seniors enrolled in an undergraduate construction or civil engineering degree program or college graduates with a degree in construction or civil engineering. Applicants must also be enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in a graduate level construction or civil engineering degree program.

 

Frederic G. Melcher Scholarship

Award: $7,500, Deadline: March 1

Applicants must intend to pursue an MLS degree, plan to work in children's librarianship and be U.S. or Canadian citizens. Selection is based on academic excellence, leadership and desire to work with children in any type of library.

 

Bound to Stay Bound Books Scholarship

Applicants must intend to pursue an MLS or advanced degree, plan to work in children's librarianship and be U.S. or Canadian citizens. Selection is based on academic excellence, leadership and a desire to work with children in any type of library.

 

Rosemary and Nellie Ebrie Foundation

Applicants must be residents of the Island of Hawaii and be of Hawaiian or part-Hawaiian ancestry. Applicants must also submit a four-sheet application and financial form, personal statement, recommendations and transcript.

 

Hellenic Times Scholarship

Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students of Greek descent between the ages of 17 and 25 and may not win any other full scholarships. Applicants must submit transcripts and may be required to submit tax returns.

 

Fulbright Grants

Applicants must be graduate students, scholars or professionals. Funds are generally used to support students in university teaching, advanced research, graduate study or teaching in elementary and secondary schools.
