Superpower Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be a United States citizen or permanent resident who is a student 13 years of age or older, and is currently enrolled (or planning to enroll) at an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Online short written response to the topic, "Which superhero or villain would you want to changes places with for a day and why" is required.

 

Coastwise Prize for Investing Excellence

Award: $2,500, Deadline: January 13

Applicant must be a sophomore, junior, or senior student at La Jolla High School, La Jolla Country Day, The Bishop's School, or The Preuss School. Essay required. Award looks to promote and inspire financial education among students to help them become more competent, aware, and wise when managing personal finances. Award amounts vary by class level. Recipients will be invited to attend the Annual Financial Horizons Conference at UC San Diego.

 

Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 6

Applicant must be a high school senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA who has proven their ability to put the spirit of competition above winning while participating in a varsity sport. Community service work is also required. Applicant must write an essay explaining why they are a good sport on and off the field. Applicants who meet all requirements and complete the essay will be voted on in an online competition; 10 applicants from each New England state with the most votes will be interviewed by a select panel of judges.

 

The Bird Dog Foundation's College Scholarship Essay Contest/The Michael Tuxon Scholarship Award

Award: $1,500, Deadline: April 15

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen who is a high school senior residing in Tennessee, Mississippi, or Arkansas. Essay required.

 

Emerge 2012 Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: January 6

Applicant must be a woman who has demonstrated a deep commitment to both reaching their educational goals and giving back to their communities. Applicant must be accepted into a program of study at an educational institution, as evidenced by a proof of acceptance. Selection is based upon financial need, other funding received, career/life goals, essay content, leadership and participation in community activities, and honors/awards received.

 

All About Education Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: April 30

Applicant must be a United States citizen or permanent resident who is a student 13 years of age or older, and is currently enrolled (or planning to enroll) at an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Online short written response to what you think about the following statement, "How will a $3,000 scholarship for education make a difference in your life" is required. Free scholarship search profile at sponsor's website is also required to be completed.

 

Governor Terry E. Brandstad Iowa State Fair Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating senior from an Iowa high school who plans to enroll at an Iowa college or university. Active participation in the Iowa State Fair (past or present) is required.

 

All Iowa Opportunity Foster Care Grant

Award: $8,368, Deadline: July 1 (March 1 priority)

Applicant must be a student who has aged out of the Iowa foster care system, aged out of the state training schools, or who was adopted after the age of 16.

 

Iowa Grant

Award: $1,000, Deadline: None

Applicant must be an Iowa student attending Regent Universities, independent colleges and universities, and community colleges throughout Iowa. Priority is given to students with the greatest financial need.

 

Iowa Tuition Grant

Applicant must be an Iowa resident enrolled at one of Iowa's eligible private colleges/universities.

 

Iowa Vocational-Technical Tuition Grant

Award: $1,200, Deadline: July 1

Applicant must be an Iowa resident enrolled in a vocational-technical or career option program at an Iowa community college. FAFSA is required.

 

Iowa National Guard Educational Assistance Grant (NGEAP)

Applicant must be an Iowa resident who is a member of an Iowa Army or Air National Guard unit for each term looking to receive benefits and who has satisfactorily completed required Guard training/maintained satisfactory performance of Guard duty. Applicant must pursue a certificate or undergraduate degree at an eligible Iowa college or university (students with B.A. degrees are not eligible to participate) and maintain satisfactory academic progress.

 

Iowa Barber and Cosmetology Arts and Sciences Tuition Grant

Applicant must be an Iowa resident who is attending a participating barber and cosmetology college in Iowa.

 

Education & Training Voucher (ETV) Program

Applicant must be a student who has aged out of foster care or a student who was adopted after age 16.

 

All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship

Applicant must be a high school senior who graduated in 2013 or will graduate with the class of 2014. Applicant must be an Iowa resident who beings initial enrollment at an eligible Iowa college/university within two academic years of graduating from high school and enroll for at least three semester hours in a program leading to an undergraduate degree. FAFSA must be filed by July 1.

Applicant must be a full-time student and one of the following: a United States citizen who is a non-Florida resident living in the United States or a United States territory or an eligible non-citizen (permanent resident).

 

Brian D. Sherwood Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a nominee from Mundelein High School in Mundelein, IL. Recipient will be selected based upon academic qualifications, extracurricular participation, community involvement, service commitment, recommendations from two faculty members, and submission of an essay entitled, "Alcohol and Driving: A Realistic Approach to Handling Friends Who Have Been Drinking."

 

NTA North America Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a permanent citizen or resident of the United States or Canada, as an undergraduate or graduate student (entering any year) in a travel-and-tourism or hospitality-related program of study at an accredited three-year or four-year college or university in the United States or Canada with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a U.S. 4.0 scale. Applicants from a three-year school will be entering third year in the fall of the calendar year of application, and will have completed a minimum 60 credit hours at the end of the semester or term. Applicants from a four-year school will be entering junior or senior year in the fall of the calendar year and will have completed a minimum 60 or 90 hours respectively at the end of the semester or term. For a complete application, please submit a U.S. or Canadian passport as proof of citizenship, or U.S. or Canadian Alien Registration Card as proof of permanent residency, a resume, two evaluations and letters of recommendation (one professional and one academic), official transcript, and an essay. Essay topic: If undergraduate level student: Discuss what segment of the travel and tourism or hospitality industry your current program of study focuses on. What opportunities are you taking advantage of career-wise in the industry? Mississippi Teacher Loan Repayment

Applicant must be a Mississippi school teacher holding a valid alternate route educator's license, who is currently teaching full-time in a critical shortage geographical area or subject.

 

SREB Doctoral Scholars Program

Award: $25,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be a Mississippi resident seeking a doctoral degree in a STEM or related field. Participant may fulfill the service obligation by teaching full-time at the collegiate level for one year for each year of money received.

 

Nursing Education Loan/Scholarship - M.S.N. or Ph.D

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be a student seeking a masters or doctorate degree in nursing at a Mississippi college or university. Applicant may fulfill the service obligation by working as a professional nurse educator in Mississippi for one year for each year of money received.

 

Nursing Education Teacher Stipend

Award: $12,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be a Mississippi resident who is a licensed registered nurse, seeking a masters or doctoral degree at a Mississippi college or university. Participant must agree to teach in an accredited Mississippi school of nursing and have received the Nursing Education Loan/Scholarship for Masters or Doctorates.

 

State Dental/Medical Education Loan/Scholarship

Applicant must be a medical or dental student who can agree to work in family medicine or general dentistry in Mississippi for one year for each year of the money received. Service must be performed in an approved critical shortage location.

 

SREB Regional Contract Program

Applicant must be a Mississippi student who is seeking an optometry degree at an approved out-of-state school. Participant may fulfill the service obligation by working as an optometrist in Mississippi for one year for year year of money received.

 

Graduate and Professional Degree Loan/Scholarship

Applicant must be a Mississippi resident who is pursing a graduate or professional degree in chiropractic medicine, orthotics/prosthetics, or podiatric medicine at an approved out-of-state institution. Participant may fulfill the service obligation by working in the appropriate field in Mississippi for one year for each year of money received.

 

Veterinary Medicine Minority Loan/Scholarship

Applicant must be a minority student who is seeking a veterinary medicine degree. Participant must fulfill the loan-to-scholarship service obligation by working for one year for each year of the money received.

 

Summer Development Grant Program

Award: $3,000, Deadline: July 31

Award looks to assist students who do not meet the criteria for admission to one of the state's public universities. Award will assist with financial need pay for the Summer Development Program during the summer preceding the freshman year of college.

 

Nissan Scholarship

Applicant must be a Mississippi student with financial need who is attending a Mississippi public college or university. Minimum 2.0 GPA, minimum composite ACT score of 20, and demonstrated leadership ability are required.

 

Higher Education Legislative Plan for Needy Students (HELP)

Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need who is pursuing a first certificate, associate, or bachelor's degree. Applicant must first receive HELP as a freshman or sophomore. Minimum 2.5 GPA, minimum composite ACT score of 20, and completion of specific high school core curriculum required.

 

Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant
