Applicant must be a National Merit Finalist who has designated St. Mary's University of Minnesota as his or her first-choice institution when completing the scholarship application. Applicants must be high school and college students who are U.S. citizens and attending a U.S. institution, except for students residing in or attending school in Rhode Island. Applicants must read the memoir "Signal Grace" and submit a 500- to 1,000-word essay in response to one of the provided questions. The winner is selected based solely on the merits of the submitted essay.

Applicants must be respiratory therapists who have been accepted into an advanced degree program of a fully accredited school. Application must be accompanied by an original essay describing how the award will aid in achieving an advanced degree and future goals in health care. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.

In addition to an original paper dealing with respiratory care, applicants must submit an original essay describing how this award will help them reach their degrees and their future goals in the field of health care.

Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree. Preference will be given to members of AAS or SEDS-USA (Students for the Exploration and Development of Space). Applicants must submit an essay describing how they hope ISU will affect their future in the space community. This scholarship is to help pay for students to attend the International Space University's Space Studies Program or the Master in Space Studies Program.

Applicants must have completed at least one to two years of graduate study and must take exams in ancient Greek language, history and either literature or art and archaeology. Students must be able to read French, German, ancient Greek and Latin with an ability to also read modern Greek and Italian considered helpful. Applicants must be graduate students who are preparing for an advanced degree in classical and ancient Mediterranean studies or a related field. The fellowships provide study in Athens or Greece for nine months and may not be used for costs at the student's home institution.

Study in Japan must be for at least three months and take place during the academic year (summer programs are not eligible). Students must submit a letter of recommendation and an essay on their interest in studying in Japan.

Applicants may not directly apply for the scholarship. Students must have excellent grades and performed research or lab work in their field.

The program is available to any qualified American pianists age 14 to 17 who are enrolled in secondary or undergraduate institutions as full-time students. Applicants also must study music and major in piano. They must submit applications, statements of career goals, two references, audio tapes and $25 fee.
