Scholarships in Doctoral-level Study

Henry Belin du Pont Dissertation Fellowship

Award: $6,500, Deadline: November 15

Applicants must be doctoral students who have completed all course work and are performing dissertation research. Research topics should involve historical questions and should relate to the collections in the Hagley Library. Fellows will receive housing, office space, a computer and Internet access. A presentation is required at the end of the residence period.

 

Research Training Fellowships for Medical Students (Medical Fellows Program)

Award: $43,000, Deadline: January 11

Applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. medical, dental or veterinary school, and the fellowship research may be conducted at an academic or nonprofit institution in the United States or abroad if the fellow's mentor is affiliated with a U.S. institution. The research should focus on biological processes or disease mechanisms. The fellowship is based on the applicant's ability, potential research career as a physician/scientist and training. Applicants must submit research plans, personal statements, letters of reference, transcripts and MCAT or DAT scores.

 

IMCEA Scholarships

Award: $1,000, Deadline: May 15

High school or college applicants must be children of IMCEA members. Candidates must provide information about their activities, honors and awards and submit an essay on the provided topic.

 

Michael Curry Summer Internship Program

Award: $1,346, Deadline: February 29

Applicants must be Illinois residents. Recipients work full-time in an agency under the jurisdiction of the Governor for 10 weeks during the summer.

 

Fadel Educational Foundation Annual Award Program

Award: $3,500, Deadline: May 29

Applicants must be non-incarcerated students pursuing higher education. Selection is based on need and merit. Applicants should provide application forms, two teacher recommendation forms, one masjid official recommendation letter and financial need reports.

 

Women in Sports Media Scholarship/Internship Program

Award: $1,000, Deadline: October 31

Applicants must be female students working full-time toward a graduate or undergraduate degree with the goal of becoming a sports writer, editor, broadcaster or public relations representative. Applicants must submit a resume, an essay on a memorable experience in sports or sports media, three references, two letters of recommendation and up to five samples of their work. Application fee is waived for AWSM members.

 

Student Achievement Grants

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 1; June 1; October 15

Applicants must be current public school teachers in PreK-12, public school education support professionals or faculty or staff at public higher education institutions. Preference is given to those who work with economically disadvantaged students and NEA members. The grants may be used for materials, supplies, equipment, transportation, software or scholars-in-residence and in some cases professional development. The work should "engage students in critical thinking and problem solving that deepens their knowledge of standards-based subject matter."

 

Learning and Leadership Grants

Award: $2,000, Deadline: February 1; June 1; October 15

Applicants must be current public school teachers in grades K-12, public school education support professionals or faculty and staff at public higher education institutions. The professional development must improve practice, curriculum and student achievement. Funds may be used for fees, travel expenses, books or materials. There is also a grant for groups for $5,000.

 

Agnes Missirian Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: April 21

Applicants must be full-time students at accredited colleges or universities who are females of Armenian descent. They must be juniors, seniors or graduate students.

 

Pryor Fellowships

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicants must be Alpha Chi members or alumni who are enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in a doctoral, terminal master's or first professional degree program.

 

Carmen E. Turner Scholarship

Award: $3,500, Deadline: March 10

Applicants must have been COMTO members in good standing for at least the past year. Students must be enrolling as an undergraduate student at an accredited institution of higher education or enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program for at least six credits per semester with at least a 2.5 GPA.

 

Thomas G. Neusom Scholarship

Award: $5,500, Deadline: March 10

Applicants must have been COMTO members in good standing for at least the past year. Students must be enrolled in at least six credits per semester at a college, vocational school or graduate school. They must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Applicants must submit a short essay and two letters of recommendation.

 

Rosa L. Parks Scholarship

Award: $4,500, Deadline: March 10

Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA. High school students must be accepted into a college or technical school, and their parents must have been COMTO members in good standing for at least the past year. College students must have at least 60 credits, and graduate students must have at least 15 credits.

 

UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarship Program

Award: $10,000, Deadline: March 10

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal and permanent residents who have epilepsy, or family members or caregivers of persons with epilepsy. They must be graduating high school in the year of application or have already graduated and be enrolled in or awaiting acceptance from a U.S. institution of higher learning. They must have demonstrated academic achievement, participate in extracurricular activities and be positive role models.

 

Pennsylvania Knights Templar Educational Foundation Scholarships

Award: -, Deadline: March 15

Applicants must be working toward a two- or four-year college degree, graduate degree or trade school education. This award is open to students regardless of financial circumstances, Masonic ties, age, race or religion.

 

Northwest Danish Association Scholarships

Award: -, Deadline: May 1

Applicants must be residents of or enrolled in accredited schools in Oregon or Washington. Applicants must also be NWDA members (or have a family membership if under 18 years of age). Through travel, field of study, study abroad, heritage or life experience, applicants must clearly be able to illustrate their connection to Denmark. The NWDA scholarship must be used in seeking an academic degree, vocational degree, re-training for employment or training for an career in the arts. Those who have participated in NWDA activities or programs will be given preference.

 

Maine BPW Continuing Education Scholarship

Award: $1,200, Deadline: April 13

Applicants must be female Maine residents who are currently attending a college or training program.

 

Harry Alan Gregg Foundation Grants

Award: $1,200, Deadline: March 9; June 8; September 7; December 7

Applicants must be New Hampshire residents with physical, intellectual or emotional disabilities or their families. Funds may be used for a variety of purposes but must benefit the person with a disability. Selection is based on need. Applications are reviewed four times a year, with deadlines in March, June, September and December.

 

Eugene and Elinor Kotur Scholarship Trust Fund

Award: $1,000, Deadline: Open

Applicants must be in their sophomore year of college or higher at one of 30 participating schools. They must be of Ukrainian descent and have been members of the Ukrainian Fraternal Association for two years.

 

Clauder Competition Prize

Award: $3,000, Deadline: Open

Applicants must live or attend school in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont. This requirement may be waived for playwrights who have previously lived in New England and produce material relevant to the area. They must submit a full-length play that is an original work and has not been produced or published.

 

David S. Barr Awards

Award: $1,500, Deadline: January 31

Applicants must be high school or post-secondary students at any type of institution and have published or broadcast a work in the previous year that helped to correct an injustice or promote justice and fairness. Students who have worked or are working as professional journalists not including internships are not eligible to enter. No more than one entry per applicant may be submitted.

 

Mary Graham Lasley Scholarship Competition

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate music students who are Virginia, Maryland or Washington, DC residents or students at colleges, universities or conservatories in Virginia, Maryland or Washington, DC. Students must be 25 years of age or younger. Prior first place winners may not reenter.

 

Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions

Award: $15,000, Deadline: Open

Applicants must be U.S. or Canadian citizens, residents of at least one year or students in U.S. or Canadian institutions of higher learning. Applicants must also be 20 to 30 years of age, have musical training and background and demonstrate operatic potential. They must be able to sing in more than one language. Applicants must audition with five arias.

 

Foundation for Neonatal Research and Education Scholarships

Applicants must be accepted into a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program (current Registered Nurses), a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program for advanced practice in neonatal nursing, a doctoral degree program in nursing or a Master's or post-Master's nursing degree program in Business Management or Nursing Administration. They must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and must be actively involved in neonatal nursing at the professional level. They cannot have received a grant or scholarship from the FNRE within the past five years, and they cannot be current members of the FNRE Scholarship Committee or Board. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

 

E. Noel Luddy Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: October 31; May 31

Applicants must be full-time students working towards an undergraduate degree at an accredited four-year educational institution or a graduate degree through an accredited program in engineering or a field related to broadcasting or telecommunications. Applicants must also have an AFCCE sponsor. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

 

Cedarcrest Farms Scholarship

Award: $1,750, Deadline: July 1

Applicants must be AJCA members studying dairy manufacturing, dairy product marketing, dairy production or large animal veterinary practice at the undergraduate or graduate level. They must have a GPA of 2.5 or above and must plan to pursue a career in agriculture. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

 

Lee S. Evans Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: March 17

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students. They must have completed at least one semester of college coursework at the time of applying for the scholarship and must have at least one year remaining in their programs of study at the time of award disbursement; fifth-year seniors are ineligible. Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the residential construction industry. Preference will be given to current student members of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and to applicants who are enrolled in a four-year degree program that focuses on construction management. Selection is based on academic merit, recommendations, extracurricular activities, work experience and financial need.

 

Colorado Nurses Association Nightingale Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: October 31

Students must be Colorado residents who are Colorado Nurses Association or Colorado Student Nurses Association members. They must be second-year ASN students; third- or fourth-year BSN students; RNs enrolled at a school of nursing at any postsecondary level; currently practicing RNs enrolled in a doctoral nursing program or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students. Undergraduates must have a GPA of 3.25 or above, and graduate students must have a GPA of 3.5 or above. Applicants must have plans to practice nursing in the state of Colorado after graduation. Selection is based on stated career goals, GPA, financial need, participation in community and professional organizations and commitment to practicing nursing in Colorado.

 

ASTM International Katherine and Bryant Mather Scholarship

Award: $7,500, Deadline: April 30

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate sophomores, undergraduate juniors, undergraduate seniors or graduate students. They must be enrolled in a degree program that is related to cement construction or concrete materials technology at an accredited institution of higher learning. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

 

WTS Minnesota Chapter Scholarships

Award: $2,000, Deadline: October 16

Applicants must be women who are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program that is related to transportation. They either must be attending a school located in Minnesota, or must be North Dakota, South Dakota or Iowa students who have lived in Minnesota at some point during the past five years. They must have plans to pursue a career in the transportation field, and must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Selection is based on academic merit, transportation-related activities and career goals.
