Preference is given to applicant who has completed at least three semesters or equivalent of college-level German and who can demonstrate a need for acquiring better proficiency in the German language. Teachers in the fields of English, German, or other modern languages/literature are not eligible.

Award is for four- and eight-week intensive language courses in Germany.
