Scholarships in High School Junior

Vermont Oratorical Contest

Award: $18,000, Deadline: Open

Applicants must be high school students under the age of 20 who are U.S. citizens or legal residents and residents of the state. Students first give an oration within their state and winners compete at the national level. The oration must be related to the Constitution of the United States focusing on the duties and obligations citizens have to the government. It must be in English and be between eight and ten minutes. There is also an assigned topic which is posted on the website, and it should be between three and five minutes.

 

Early College for ME

Award: $2,000, Deadline: Open

Applicants must be in their junior year at one of the 74 Maine high schools participating in the program. The list of schools is online at http://www.earlycollege.me.edu/participating.html. Students must be Maine residents for at least one year prior to entering the first year of college and must have not yet made plans for college and yet be capable of succeeding at a community college. High schools may also take financial need into consideration when selecting students for the program as well as whether or not the student is the first one to attend college in their family. The program provides community college courses in the senior year of high school, as available, as well as financial aid for a one-year or two-year degree program at a Maine community college.

 

MEFA UPlan Prepaid Tuition Waiver Program

Applicants must be planning to attend a school in the state of Massachusetts which participates in the UPlan program.

 

A-OK Student Reward Program

Award: $2,500, Deadline: Quarterly

Applicants must be full-time students in first through 12th grade who are dependents of active-duty military members, reservists and retirees and have a B or higher grade point average.

 

Andre Sobel Award

Award: -, Deadline: January 31

Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 21 as of June 30 of the year of application. They must be survivors of cancer or some other critical or life-threatening illness. Friends, family members and caregivers of those who meet these qualifications may also participate. All applicants must be United States residents. An essay is required.

Annual Music Student Scholarships

Applicants must be public, private or home school students in grades 4 through 12, be music students and write an essay on the given topic. Five scholarships are awarded to students in grades 4 through 8, and five are awarded to students in grades 9 through 12. Schools of winners will receive merchandise prizes.

David S. Barr Awards

Applicants must be high school or post-secondary students at any type of institution and have published or broadcast a work in the previous year that helped to correct an injustice or promote justice and fairness. Students who have worked or are working as professional journalists not including internships are not eligible to enter. No more than one entry per applicant may be submitted.

 

Florida Governor's Black History Month Essay Contest

Applicants must be Florida students in grades 4-12 and compose an essay on the given topic. Winners receive a four-year full scholarship to a Florida state college or university and a trip to the Governor's Black History Month celebration.
